§ 691 Challenges to individual jurors.

When it's time to question and possibly remove specific jurors, the defense and the prosecution take turns. The defense goes first, then the state gets a turn, and they keep alternating back and forth like this throughout the process.

This system exists to keep things fair. Neither side gets to challenge multiple jurors in a row before the other side has a chance to speak up. Instead, both sides get equal, evenly spaced opportunities to remove jurors they don't want on the case.

In practice, this means jury selection follows a clear back and forth pattern. The defendant's lawyer will challenge a juror if they choose to, then the prosecutor gets their turn, and the process continues this way until both sides are done making their challenges.
