§ 131.892 Offer of reward for information on commission of criminal offense

Any group or person can offer money as a reward if it helps catch and convict someone who committed a crime. This means businesses, organizations, or private citizens are allowed to publicly announce that they will pay for tips or information that leads police to the right suspect.

The reward has to be tied to two things actually happening: the person getting caught and then being convicted in court. Simply offering a tip that leads to an arrest may not be enough to collect the reward if the case doesn't end in a conviction, depending on how the reward offer is worded.

This rule mainly confirms that offering rewards for crime tips is legal. It does not require anyone to offer a reward. It just makes clear that doing so is allowed under Oregon law, whether the reward comes from a company, a community group, or an individual person.
