§ 153.530 Designation of speed in complaint and summons charging violation of basic speed rule or speed limit

If you get a speeding ticket in Oregon, the ticket has to include specific details about the speed you were allegedly driving. It also has to state the speed limit for that area, or the speed that officers use as evidence of unsafe driving under the basic speed rule.

This rule applies to two types of speeding charges: violating the basic speed rule (driving too fast for conditions, even if under the posted limit) and violating a posted speed limit. In both cases, the ticket must clearly show both numbers side by side, the speed you were going and the speed you were supposed to follow.

This matters because it lets you see exactly what you're accused of and compare it to the legal limit. If the ticket leaves out this information, you may have grounds to challenge it in court.
