Rule 1.3 Diligence

If you hire a lawyer to handle your case, they have to actually work on it. They can't put your file aside and forget about it, miss deadlines, or drag things out without a good reason. Once a lawyer takes on your legal matter, they're responsible for following through on it.

This means your lawyer needs to keep track of important dates, respond to what's happening in your case, and move things forward. If a lawyer ignores your case or lets it sit without action, they are breaking this rule. This protects clients from having their legal problems get worse simply because their lawyer wasn't paying attention or doing the work they were hired to do.
