Rule 11.040 Admission or Stipulation to Jurisdiction; Dismissal

If you're involved in a juvenile court case and the parties agree on jurisdiction (meaning everyone agrees the court has the right to hear the case) or agree to admit to something, you need to tell the court right away. The same goes if the parties decide to dismiss the case. You can't wait until the hearing to bring this up.

This rule exists so the court doesn't waste time preparing for a hearing that doesn't need to happen. If the issues get resolved ahead of time through an agreement or the case gets dropped, the court needs to know as soon as that happens, not at the last minute. This helps the court manage its schedule and avoid holding hearings that are no longer necessary.

The key point is timing. As soon as anyone involved in the case learns about an admission, agreement, or dismissal, they must notify the court immediately. Waiting until the jurisdictional or dispositional hearing is too late.
