Rule 6.110 Special and General Findings in Separate Document

If a judge makes special or general findings or conclusions in a case, those findings need to be written up on their own, separate from the judgment itself. In other words, the judgment document and the findings document are two different papers, not one combined document.

This matters because it keeps things organized. Anyone reading the judgment can see the court's final decision clearly, without having to sort through the detailed reasoning or findings that led to it. If you need to see why the judge decided the way they did, you would look at the separate findings document rather than the judgment.
