Rule 2 Scope of Rules

These rules apply to civil cases in Texas courts, including justice courts, county courts, district courts, and business courts. Civil cases are legal disputes between people or organizations, such as lawsuits over money, property, or contracts.

The rules set the steps and procedures that everyone in a civil case must follow. There are some exceptions, which are explained in other parts of the rules.
