Rule 83 Answer; Original and Supplemental; Indorsement

When you are the defendant in a Texas civil case, you will file an "original answer" as your first response to the lawsuit. If you need to add more information or respond to new things the other side raises later, you can file additional answers called supplemental answers.

Each answer you file needs a clear label on it. The first one is called "original answer." After that, each new filing gets a number, like "defendant's first supplemental answer," "defendant's second supplemental answer," and so on. This labeling system helps the court and everyone involved keep track of where things stand in the case.
