Art. 2A.203 SHERIFFS: REPORT OF WARRANT OR CAPIAS INFORMATION

When a court clerk issues a warrant or capias (an order to arrest someone), the sheriff has 30 days to take action. If the person was charged with a felony and didn't show up to court when they were supposed to, the sheriff must report that warrant to the National Crime Information Center, which is a national database law enforcement uses to track wanted people.

If the person was charged with a misdemeanor (but not the lowest level, called a Class C misdemeanor) and also failed to show up in court, the sheriff has the choice to report that warrant too. It's not required in that case, just allowed.

In short, this rule sets a deadline for sheriffs to alert a national system about people who skip court dates. For felony cases, reporting is mandatory. For most misdemeanor cases, it's optional. This helps make sure warrants show up when police in other places check someone's background or run their name during a stop.
