Art. 2A.204 SHERIFFS: REPORT ON PRISONERS

Every month, the sheriff has to send a written report to the local prosecutor (either the district attorney or the county attorney, depending on who handles the case). This report has to go out on the first day of the month.

The report needs to list every single person currently being held in the county jail. For each person, the sheriff must include their name and explain the legal reason they're being held, such as a warrant, a court order, or a pending charge.

This rule exists so prosecutors know exactly who is sitting in jail and why. It helps prevent people from being forgotten in custody or held without a clear legal basis. It also keeps communication open between the sheriff's office and the prosecutor's office about the jail population.
