Rule 401 Test for Relevant Evidence Evidence is relevant if:

Evidence is relevant if it helps prove or disprove something that matters to the case. Even a small connection is enough. The evidence does not need to prove something beyond all doubt. It just needs to make a fact a little more or less likely to be true.

Not every fact qualifies. The fact in question has to actually matter to the outcome of the case. If a piece of evidence relates to something that has no bearing on the final decision, it is not considered relevant under this rule.
