Rule 402 General Admissibility of Relevant Evidence

Evidence must be relevant to be allowed in court. If something has nothing to do with the case, a judge will not let it in.

Even relevant evidence can be blocked if a law or court rule says so. The U.S. Constitution, the Texas Constitution, state laws, and the Texas Rules of Evidence can all require a judge to keep certain evidence out, even if it relates to the case.
