Rule 402 Relevant Evidence Generally Admissible; Irrelevant Evidence Inadmissible

In court, a judge will allow evidence that connects to the case and helps prove or disprove something important. If evidence has nothing to do with the case, the judge will not allow it.

There are some exceptions to this. Even relevant evidence can be kept out of court if a law, the Constitution, or another court rule says it cannot be used. So relevance alone does not guarantee that evidence will be allowed.
