Rule 15A.15 Title and Description of Document

When someone files a document electronically in court, they need to give it a clear title and description. The e-filing system will offer general document type titles to choose from, like "Motion to Compel" or "Motion for Summary Judgment." The person filing must pick the title that actually matches what their document is.

Beyond the title, the person filing also has to write a short description of the document in a text box. This description needs to be accurate and specific enough that someone can tell exactly what the document covers. For example, instead of just saying "Motion for Summary Judgment," a good description would say something like "Defendant Jane Doe's Motion for Summary Judgment on Count I of Plaintiff's Amended Complaint."

This rule matters because it helps everyone involved in a case, including judges, court staff, and other attorneys, quickly understand what each filed document is about without having to open and read the whole thing first. Clear titles and descriptions keep the court file organized and make it easier to find specific documents later.
