Rule 22.04 Action on Motions

Judges are expected to rule on motions quickly so the case can stay on track with its scheduling order. If a motion needs a fast answer, the person who filed it has to let the judge know that it's urgent. Simply filing the motion isn't enough; the party must actively flag it as time-sensitive.

If a judge takes too long to rule on a motion that could decide part or all of the case (called a dispositive motion), that delay can be a valid reason to change the scheduling order. This protects people from being stuck waiting indefinitely while deadlines in their case keep moving forward. In short, this rule pushes for timely decisions and gives parties a way to fix the schedule if delays happen.
