Rule 25.14 Enforceability of Settlement Agreement

When people in a lawsuit work out a settlement and sign a written agreement, that agreement becomes legally binding just like any other contract. This means both sides have to follow through on what they agreed to.

If someone breaks the agreement later, the other side can go to court to enforce it. The court will treat it the same way it would treat a business contract or any other written deal between two parties. Signing the settlement is a serious step, so it's worth making sure everyone understands and agrees to the terms before putting pen to paper.
