Rule 6.02 Citation Form

When you write a motion or memo for court, you need to cite cases, statutes, and other legal sources correctly. West Virginia doesn't require one specific citation style, but whatever format you use has to be a recognized, standard way of citing legal materials. Think of styles like Bluebook citation, which most lawyers learn in law school.

This matters because judges and other lawyers need to be able to find and check the sources you're citing. If your citations are sloppy or use a made-up format, it makes your filing harder to read and less credible. Sticking to a standard citation style keeps everyone on the same page and shows the court you did your homework properly.
