Rule 7023 Class Actions

When someone files an adversary proceeding in bankruptcy court, the rules for class action lawsuits apply. An adversary proceeding is basically a lawsuit filed within a bankruptcy case.

This means a group of people with the same legal problem can join together and sue as one group instead of each person filing separately. To do this, the group has to meet certain requirements, like having enough people involved and sharing the same legal questions. A judge must approve the group, called a "class," before the case can move forward that way.
