Rule 7029 Stipulations About Discovery Procedure

Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 29 covers agreements between the parties in a lawsuit about how they will handle discovery. Discovery is the process where each side shares information and evidence with the other before trial.

When two sides in a bankruptcy court dispute agree to change how discovery works between them, they can do so without asking the judge for permission. For example, they might agree to extend deadlines or change how they exchange documents. However, they cannot make agreements that would require the court to change its schedule or take on extra work, since those changes still need a judge's approval.
