Rule 9008 Service or Notice by Publication

If a court needs to notify people about a bankruptcy case through a public announcement, a judge decides how that will happen. The judge picks where the notice will be published, such as in a specific newspaper or other media outlet, and how many times it needs to run.

This rule exists because sometimes people involved in a bankruptcy case cannot be reached directly. Publishing a notice gives them a chance to learn about the case even if no one has their current contact information.
