When lawyers want to remove potential jurors from a case, they do it privately, away from the other jurors waiting to be picked. The judge decides exactly how this process works.

The point is to keep the rest of the jury pool from knowing who got challenged, why they were challenged, or how the judge ruled. This prevents the remaining potential jurors from being influenced by what they see or hear during jury selection.
