Rule 4-9 Binding Authority of Oral Agreements

If your lawyer makes an agreement out loud (like during a hearing or a phone call with the other side), that agreement can be legally binding on you, even if nothing was written down. The court has the power to hold you to whatever your lawyer agreed to.

This means your lawyer speaks for you in court matters. You should stay in close contact with your lawyer and make sure they know your wishes before any court appearances or negotiations. If your lawyer agrees to something you did not want, you could still be stuck with that agreement.
