§ 24-9-904 [Definitions for Public Office and Telephone Provider]

This rule explains three terms used in Georgia's evidence law. "Public office" follows a definition already written in another part of the law. A "public officer" is any person who was appointed or elected to lead a government entity. A "telephone service provider" means the same thing as a "voice service provider," which is defined in a separate section of Georgia law.

These definitions matter because they set the ground rules for how courts handle records and documents from government offices and phone companies. When evidence comes from one of these sources, the court needs to know exactly what counts as a public office or a phone provider before deciding how to treat that evidence.
