Everyone in a court case, whether they have a lawyer or not, must follow the court's rules and tell the truth. This applies both when speaking to the judge and when dealing with the other side. You cannot lie or make up facts, whether you are in the courtroom or communicating outside of it.
You need to come to your hearing or trial fully prepared. That means having your witnesses ready to testify and knowing how you plan to present your case. The court expects you to be ready on the scheduled date.
If you need to postpone your hearing or trial, you must ask in writing as soon as you know there is a problem. You also need to explain why you need more time. The judge will only agree to postpone if you have a good reason.
Everyone, including lawyers and people representing themselves, must behave professionally and respectfully toward the judge, court staff, and the other side. This applies inside the courtroom and in any other dealings connected to the case.
