Rule 5.1 Ex parte communications.

Judges cannot have private, one-sided conversations with one party or their lawyer about a case that is ongoing or about to start. This means if you are involved in a case, you cannot contact the judge directly to talk about your situation without the other side present or informed.

Both sides in a case must have the same chance to share information with the judge. If one party tries to communicate privately with the judge, that communication generally cannot be used or considered when the judge makes decisions. There are a few exceptions allowed by law or court rules, but they are limited.
