Senior judges are retired judges who come back to help with court cases when needed. When a senior judge is assigned to handle your case, the same rules apply as they would for any other judge.
If you want to ask a senior judge to step aside from your case (called a recusal or disqualification), you follow the same steps as you would with a regular judge. You must file your request quickly, and you need to have a real reason why you think the judge cannot be fair to you.
Senior judges have the same authority as active judges while they are serving. This means their rulings and decisions carry the same weight as those made by a full-time judge.
