Rule 21.3 Ex Parte Orders

A judge can limit someone's access to court records or filings without hearing from the other side first, but only in urgent situations. This type of order is called an "ex parte" order, which means only one party asks for it without the other party being present or notified.

To get this order, you must file a written motion along with a sworn statement (called an affidavit) that explains why the situation is urgent. The judge will review what you submit and decide whether to grant the request based on that alone.

Any restriction granted this way can only last up to 30 days. After that, the limitation expires unless the court takes further action.
