Rule 604 Interpreters

If you need an interpreter in court, that person has to meet certain standards. They cannot just be anyone who speaks the language. The court treats interpreters like expert witnesses, meaning they must show they are qualified to do the job.

Before interpreting, the interpreter must also take an oath or make a formal promise to translate accurately and honestly. This is meant to make sure everything said in court is translated correctly and fairly for everyone involved.
