Art. 109 Assistants and deputies included

When this code refers to an official by title, like clerk of court, district attorney, or sheriff, that title also covers the people who work for them, such as assistants and deputies. This means an assistant district attorney or a deputy sheriff can act with the same authority as the official whose title is named, as long as they're doing that official's job.

The only exception is when the situation makes it clear that the rule is talking about that specific person and not their staff. In most cases, though, you don't need to worry about whether it's the sheriff himself or one of his deputies handling a matter. The law treats them the same way for these purposes.
