Art. 3507 Release of property by defendant; security

If your property has been seized under a court order (called a writ of attachment or sequestration), you don't have to leave it tied up until the case ends. You can get your property back by putting up security, like a bond, that guarantees you'll pay if the court rules against you.

This gives you a way to keep using your property while the lawsuit is still going on. Instead of waiting months or years for a final decision, you provide a financial guarantee to the court. If you end up losing the case, that security covers the judgment against you. If you win, the security is simply released back to you.

This rule protects both sides. The person who had your property seized still has a guarantee they'll get paid if they win. But you're not stuck losing the use of your property the whole time the case is being decided.
