Rule 16.1 Court Reporter

If a lawyer asks for it, the court reporter has to record all testimony and evidence hearings in misdemeanor cases. This means the entire proceeding gets written down and preserved, word for word.

This matters because having a full record can protect both sides later on. If someone wants to appeal a decision or needs to check what was actually said in court, the recorded transcript gives an accurate account. Without this request, a misdemeanor hearing might not automatically be recorded, so attorneys need to speak up if they want that protection in place.
