V § 1 Motion Filing Requirements

When you file a motion with the Louisiana Supreme Court, you need to include the case number and case title on it. You also have to pay the filing fee that's required under Rule II. Without these basic pieces, your motion isn't complete.

You must file two copies of the motion, an original and a duplicate. Along with these copies, you need to attach a certificate showing that you sent a copy to the other side's lawyer. This copy has to be sent the same way you filed it with the court, whether that's by mail, delivery, or another method.

Every motion also needs a proposed order attached to it. This proposed order has to be on its own separate page, and it must include the case number and title just like the motion itself. This gives the court a ready-made order to sign if they decide to grant your request.
