VII § 1 Continuances

When a case is scheduled for oral arguments at the Louisiana Supreme Court, it will not be postponed easily. If someone wants to delay the arguments, they must file a motion asking for a continuance. That motion has to show extraordinary circumstances, meaning a very serious reason that goes beyond normal scheduling problems or inconvenience.

The court decides whether the reason is good enough to justify pushing back the date. This rule exists to keep cases moving forward and to stop people from delaying arguments without a strong reason. If you are involved in a case before the court, you should expect the scheduled date to stay firm unless something serious comes up.
