When someone asks the Louisiana Supreme Court to declare a judge unable to serve because of incapacity, the court's justices vote on the request. If most of the justices agree that the judge is incapacitated, the court takes formal action.

The court then creates an official certificate stating that the judge is incapacitated. This certificate gets sent to two people: the governor and the secretary of state. This step makes the decision official and puts state leaders on notice that the judge can no longer perform their duties.

This process matters because it triggers what happens next for the judge's position. Once the governor and secretary of state receive this certificate, they can take the proper legal steps to address the vacancy or handle the situation according to state law.
