XXXIII Pt. I § 7 Random assignment of cases

When a court has more than one judge handling child abuse and neglect cases, new cases get assigned to judges randomly. This applies to courts that follow the "one family, one judge" policy, which means the same judge handles all the legal matters for a single family instead of passing the case around to different judges.

The random assignment follows the process set out in Louisiana's Code of Civil Procedure, or another method allowed by law. The goal is to move these cases through the court system quickly and fairly, without letting anyone pick which judge gets a particular case.
