XXXV § 6 Political Involvement in Elections

People who serve on the Judicial Campaign Oversight Committee have to follow the same political rules that judges and judicial candidates follow. These rules come from Canon 7 of the Louisiana Code of Judicial Conduct, which limits how judges can get involved in political activities and elections.

This means committee members can't act like typical political players. They face the same restrictions on things like endorsing candidates, donating to campaigns, or publicly taking sides in elections that judges themselves must follow. The idea is to keep the committee neutral and trustworthy, since its job is to oversee judicial campaign conduct. If members could freely engage in politics themselves, it would be harder for the public to trust their decisions about whether other judges or candidates crossed a line.
