XXXV § 8 Rulemaking

A group called the Committee is allowed to set its own internal rules for how it handles complaints about judicial campaigns. This includes creating faster ways to deal with complaints that come in during the final two weeks before a judicial election, since timing matters so much that close to voting day.

The Committee can also create a standard complaint form to make it easier for people to report problems with how a judicial candidate is campaigning. On top of that, the Committee can ask candidates running for judge to sign a pledge promising to campaign fairly and honestly. If a candidate signs one of these pledges, it becomes public information that anyone can look at.

Before any of these rules, forms, or pledges can actually be used, the Louisiana Supreme Court has to approve them first. This means the Committee cannot just make up its own procedures and start using them right away. The high court has final say over whether these tools are allowed.
