Rule 33.15 Misdemeanors or Felonies - Bond - Release of Obligors

If someone puts up a bond to get a defendant out of jail, that person is called an obligor or surety. Once the case conditions are met (like the defendant showing up to all required court dates), the court will let that person off the hook. They no longer have to worry about losing the money they put up.

If the court had ordered the bond forfeited (meaning it looked like the money would be lost), but then changes its mind and cancels that forfeiture, the court also has the choice to release the person who put up the bond.

There's another way a surety can get released early too. They can either hand over cash equal to the full bond amount, or they can bring the defendant back to the court themselves before problems come up. Doing either of these lets them step out of their responsibility for the bond.
