Courts need reliable fax equipment to handle documents that get filed by fax. This rule sets basic technical standards for the fax machines courts use.

The machine has to use plain paper, not the old-style thermal paper that fades over time. It also needs to meet a common industry standard called Group III, which lets a regular letter-size page transmit in about a minute. This makes sure faxes come through clearly and at a reasonable speed.

The fax machine must also stamp the date and time on every document it receives. This stamp matters because it creates an official record of exactly when your filing arrived at the court. If there's ever a question about whether you filed something on time, this timestamp is what settles it.
