Rule 21-100 Canon 1.

Judges must act in ways that keep the courts fair, honest, and independent. This means a judge should always make decisions based on the law and the facts, not on outside pressure, personal interests, or favors to anyone.

A judge also has to avoid doing anything that looks bad, even if it's technically not against the rules. If something a judge does would make a reasonable person question their honesty or fairness, the judge should not do it. This applies both on and off the bench, since a judge's conduct in daily life reflects on the whole court system.

The point of this rule is to protect public trust in the courts. People need to believe that judges are fair and that the legal system works the way it should. When a judge acts with integrity and avoids even the appearance of wrongdoing, it helps keep that trust strong.
