§ 122 Continuance in office

Judges who were already serving on the domestic relations court in New York City did not lose their jobs when this law took effect. Instead, they automatically became judges of the new family court. Each judge kept working in the county where they lived within the city.

This rule made sure the change to the family court system did not create gaps in staffing or force judges out early. Judges simply finished out the rest of the term they had already been appointed to, just under a new court name and structure. No one had to reapply or get reappointed to keep doing their job.
