§ 546 Payment to parent or support collection unit

This rule covers how child support payments get handled once a court orders them. The court can decide that support payments should go directly to the parent who has custody of the child, or the payments can be sent to a support collection unit instead. This unit is set up by the local social services district to manage support payments.

If the support collection unit is the one handling payments, it has to keep the court updated. The unit must report back to the court about how much money came in and how much was paid out, whenever the court asks for this information. This helps the court keep track of whether support payments are actually being made and passed along as ordered.
