Rule 501 Privileges

Pennsylvania's evidence rules do not change or take away any legal privileges that already exist. A privilege is a right that lets someone keep certain information private in court, like conversations between a lawyer and client or between a doctor and patient.

These rights come from other laws, not from the evidence rules themselves. If the law changes those privileges in the future, the evidence rules will not get in the way of those changes either.
