The probate court must keep official records of its proceedings. These records can be kept in physical books, digital files, or on microfilm.

Once a document has been officially recorded, the court does not have to keep the original paper forever. The original can be destroyed or moved to off-site storage, as long as the court follows Georgia state rules about how long records must be kept.
