IX § 1 Eligibility and Limitations

If you're involved in a case where the Louisiana Supreme Court has already agreed to hear a writ application, an appeal, or some other proceeding, you may be able to ask the Court to reconsider its decision. This is called an application for rehearing. Only the parties in the case can file one, and it can't be longer than 25 pages.

If you need to include extra documents to explain why the Court should grant your request, you can attach them in a separate appendix. That appendix also has a 25-page limit in civil cases. Keep in mind that if your case involves an election, you cannot file for a rehearing at all. The law specifically blocks this option in election cases because those cases need to move quickly.

There's also an important limit if the Court already denied your writ application (meaning it decided not to hear your case in the first place). You generally cannot ask the Court to reconsider that denial. The Court will only consider this kind of request in rare and unusual situations.
