About This Court
Located in the Florida Panhandle and the Big Bend region, the Northern District of Florida is one of three federal judicial districts in the state. It covers a geographically elongated area stretching from the Alabama and Georgia borders southward, encompassing cities such as Tallahassee, Pensacola, Panama City, and Gainesville. The district sits within the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
Despite covering a large geographic area, the Northern District of Florida is among the smaller federal districts by population. The presence of Florida State University, the Florida A&M University, and the state capital in Tallahassee gives the district a distinct governmental and academic character. Pensacola, on the western end, serves as a significant military and commercial hub within the district.
